Summary
This bill implements many items in the 2008 budget. Some of these are the Tax-Free Savings Account, an extra ten years of active contributions to RESPs, an increase in the Northern Residents Deduction, various corporate tax breaks, and GST adjustments.
It also dissolves the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation, and re-writes some of the language of the Students Loan repayments schemes, specifically for financially-troubled people.
The bill allows for the Immigration Minister to specifically target and exclude potential immigrants based on what the country requires in the way of skills and experience, et cetera.
Furthermore, it provides funding for Front-Line Postal Workers to be hired, money for public transit, and also for carbon-capture and storage.
The bill also provides funding for Genome Canada, the Mental Health Commission, and the Gairdner Foundation.
