Summary

This bill lays down the groundwork for making identity theft an indictable offence. Anyone possessing, selling, making, or transferring somebody else's ID is guilty, except if it was done by accident (in good faith), for genealogical purposes, with consent of the affected person, or for legitimate purposes for law enforcement. It also makes the offender responsible for restitution to the victim(s).

The punishment for this crime is up to five years in prison or summary conviction.

For more serious offences under this act (counterfeit rings, credit ccard forgery rings, et cetera) , the prison term can be longer.
